About TAKE Authentic Japanese Cuisine

TAKE delivers Bali’s benchmark Japanese table—from pristine cuts of sashimi to live seafood pulled straight from the tanks. Run by a veteran Japanese founder who still works the floor, the two-story Legian institution channels the rhythm of an authentic izakaya. Regulars pass up standard rolls for the rich garlic-spiked Niniku Tonkotsu ramen, small plates of tender iidako, and grilled oysters sizzling in rich butter sauce. Diners can settle into sunken tatami seating upstairs or take a counter seat right in front of the teppanyaki grill to watch the sear up close.

  • Live seafood and grilled butter oysters: Live seafood tanks yield local catches, tender baby octopus (iidako), and oysters sizzling in rich butter sauce.
  • Teppanyaki and tatami settings: Two floors offer choices between interactive teppanyaki counter cooking and sunken tatami mat seating for small groups.
  • Founder-led Japanese kitchen: A veteran Japanese founder actively oversees daily operations and mingles with guests across both dining floors.

Native Japanese chef-founder Okamoto-san personally greets guests and maintains a warm, hospitable floor presence across decades in Bali.

caught the owner, Okamoto-san just casually chilling with his ice cream like it’s his day off 😄 We ended up asking for a photo together, had a fun little chat in Japanese, and yeah… instant good vibes.
