About Es Waneng

Serving shaved ice in Tabanan since 1938, Es Waneng pours coconut milk, palm sugar syrup, and roasted candlenut over crushed ice. Regulars grab plain white bread off the rack behind the counter to dunk into the glass—letting the crumbs soak up the sweet, nutty liquid for just a few thousand rupiah. Savory market snacks and nasi bungkus line the roadside counter, but the draw remains the vintage ice pairing that hasn't changed in generations.

  • Heritage Candlenut Ice: Poured since 1938 with coconut milk, palm sugar, shaved ice, and grated roasted candlenut.
  • Bread-Dipping Tradition: Customarily enjoyed by dipping slices of white bread straight into the glass to balance the sweet chill.
  • Historic Street Pricing: Glasses run Rp 2,000 to Rp 3,000, with bread and market snacks starting at Rp 1,000.

Practical advice for ordering, pairing, and visiting this historic Tabanan shaved ice stall

  • Pair Your Glass with Bread

Take white bread from behind the vendor and dip it directly into the shaved ice to balance out the sweetness and cold temperature.

  • Anticipate Tight Roadside Parking

Because the stall sits directly along the roadside, parking can be difficult to find; plan ahead if arriving by car or scooter during busy hours.

  • Bring Small Cash Denominations

Carry small cash or coins, as glasses cost Rp 2,000 to Rp 3,000 each and accompanying breads or snacks are priced around Rp 1,000.
