About Warung Monkey

Step off the Subak Sok Wayah walking trail for open-air Balinese cooking and sunset drinks overlooking active rice paddies. Tucked far away from Ubud traffic, this breezy pavilion pairs wide terrace views with serene back-garden tables perched directly over a lily pond. Regulars gravitate toward the raised stilt huts for lunch or settle in at dusk when the sky turns orange across the fields. The kitchen turns out fragrant Nasi Kuning Campur served on banana leaves alongside satay skewers and fresh vegetable curries, accompanied by house-made drinks like the Monkey Hanky shaken with local arak.

  • Stilt Huts Over the Lily Pond: Raised open-air huts and tables set above a back-garden lotus pond provide a quiet perch away from the main path.
  • Arak Cocktails at Sunset: Signature sundowners feature local Balinese arak, including the citrusy Monkey Hanky served with purple potato chips.

  • Sunset Balinese Arak Cocktails

The evening drink menu highlights Balinese palm spirit concoctions like the Monkey Hanky, paired with dusk views over the rice paddies.

We washed it down with an amazing local cocktail with arak, apple juice and lemon called a Monkey Hanky.

Open-air tables look directly out across verdant working rice terraces, offering sights of ducks wandering the fields as you dine.

And we got to eat it looking over a rice field watching ducks play.

Helpful guidance on navigating the path, seating choices, and evening visits

  • Access via the Rice Field Trail

Reach the warung on foot via the Subak Sok Wayah rice field trail tucked off Ubud's busy strip, as it sits along a scenic walking path rather than a direct drive-up road.

  • Seek Out the Back Lily Pad Seating

Head toward the back garden area if you prefer dining above water in raised wooden huts surrounded by lotus ponds and lily pads rather than front terrace views.

  • Accept Offered Insect Repellent at Dusk

When arriving in the evening for sunset drinks or dinner by the rice fields, accept the insect repellent provided by staff to stay comfortable outdoors.
