About Jack Fish

Jack Fish serves freshly caught seafood right on the Sanur shoreline, dishing up grilled mahi-mahi and cold Bintang with your feet planted directly in the sand. Run by a multi-generational fisherman, this casual beach warung keeps things thoroughly grounded—think simple tables under shade trees and fresh catches cooked over flame. Regulars point to the grilled fish spooned with fragrant sambal matah, balanced by hot rice, crispy calamari, and unpretentious family hospitality.

  • Fisherman-Run Kitchen: Operated by a multi-generational fisherman who catches the daily haul and guides boat outings.
  • Barefoot Beach Dining: Tables sit straight on the sand under tree shade overlooking traditional boats on the water.
  • Charred Catch & Sambal: Grilled mahi-mahi, squid, and seasonal lobster served alongside rice and fragrant sambal matah.

Reasons to Choose Jack Fish

Why diners choose this barefoot Sanur warung for fresh daily catches, seaside shade, and authentic fisherman hospitality

  • Freshly Grilled Fish with Traditional Sambal

Guests enjoy freshly grilled mahi mahi, squid, and tuna seasoned with house basting sauce and fiery sambal matah alongside cold drinks at authentic local prices.

Our recommended "Happy Meal:" grilled mahi with rice and sambal. The reason this is special: the lovely basting sauce on the fish. But more important is the sambal matah and the rice. Mix the sambal over the rice and on the fish. Be very happy. Enjoy a favorite drink on the side (I love the Bintang besar).

  • Affordable Local Warung Value

Diners receive hearty, freshly caught seafood portions prepared on the grill at warung price points that make regular return visits easy.

Waren zwei Mal dort und hatten verschiedene gegrillte Fischgerichte ausprobiert. Alles sehr lecker und große Portionen für ca. 60.000 Rp.

  • Barefoot Beachfront Dining in the Sand

Tables are set directly in the sand beneath leafy trees on Sanur beach, giving guests an unpretentious view of the ocean and passing boats while they dine.

These little Warungs on the beach boardwalk at Sanur walk are not pretentious. Plastic and wooden tables in the sand with a wonderful view.

  • Relaxed Coastal Atmosphere Under Shaded Trees

The laid-back shoreline setup offers a quiet respite under shaded trees where guests can relax with cold beers and let children play in the sand right next to the tables.

In front of the sea, tables on the beach under the trees , kids can play sand just next to table.

  • Direct Connection with a Multi-Generational Fisherman

The owner is a multi-generational fisherman who shares ocean knowledge and invites diners out on traditional boat trips and coral reef excursions.

Got talking to Jack, a 6th generation local fisherman (no wonder his fish is so fresh) and today we joined him on his traditional fishing boat and got a very passionate explanation about the sea, the coral reef and the protection and cultivation of the coral Jack is involved in.

  • Warm Maritime Lore and Multilingual Hospitality

Guests are welcomed by multilingual hosts who happily share fishing lore, answer local questions, and foster personal hospitality over cold drinks.

Nyoman is a 5th or 6th generation fisherman and is incredibly knowledgeable of the ocean, fishing techniques etc. (we spent hours talking fishing, looking at home made lures, photos, videos and the like) so it was an added bonus being able to have great conversation over a few beers.

Before you head over

Practical advice for ordering fresh seafood and making the most of your beachfront visit

  • Pre-order specialty catches in advance

For specialty seafood items like lobster, arrange or order ahead a day in advance to secure availability and confirm the price before dining.

  • Check the chili level on traditional sauces

If you are sensitive to heat, ask about the spice level when ordering, as traditional Balinese sides like sambal matah can be very hot.

  • Arrange fishing or reef outings directly

In addition to beachfront dining, you can inquire directly with the owner about heading out on his boat for fishing or snorkeling over local reefs.
